Irgendwas Kippt, Verschwörungserzählungen und Grenzen der Freundschaft

Has it ever happened to you that you suddenly realized: “Wait, my friend is convinced there’s a conspiracy!” — no matter how absurd it seemed to you? According to the researchers behind RaisoN*, chances are it has.

RaisoN examines how social circles react when someone adopts conspiracy ideologies and what challenges this creates for educational, counseling, and social work. We had the pleasure of contributing to the project, and our comic now helps communicate some of the team’s findings.

In “Irgendwas kippt” (“Something Is Shifting”), we follow a group of friends as one of them becomes convinced of increasingly far-fetched—and even antisemitic—conspiracy narratives. How do friendships change when this happens? And what options do friends have for responding?

RaisoN is a joint project of TH Köln and University of Cologne. The project website features case studies on various conspiracy ideologies and offers valuable insights for professionals and the wider public alike: fachinfo-verschwörungsideologie.de.

RaisoN stands for “Radicalization through conspiracy ideologies: the impact on the immediate social environment as a challenge for education and counseling.”
